An Open Letter on Technology Innovation
Everyone knows and understands that Technology continues to advance at a rapid rate so why is it that you never seem able to take advantage of it. When you check into new technologies, they always saeem so expensive, bleeding edge, dangerous to investment time and money. However you always have that feeling that you could take considerable advantage of the technology if you could just find the right deal.
At KayPat Enterprises we understand these feelings. We have sat at that desk thinking the same things, wondering why. Then one day we understood the problem. We were always talking to the vendors about THEIR products and not how to best solve our problems. Vendors tell you all of the good points of their products, then place Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) on the other vendor’s products. Of course this FUD then makes you doubt everything. The fear factor is, “Are you willing to put your job on the line?” So you end up telling your peers and bosses that the technology is just not ready yet for prime time and “we should just wait for someone else to work out the bugs”.
We take a different approach towards technology. We start with the premise there is not one single solution that will solve your problems, that is a fact that should not be avoided. Therefore you may likely need to create a mix of technologies and build the solution. Let me provide you three examples.
Take a simple thing like a light bulb. It has been around for a century and we are finally figuring out that it may not be the most efficient way to generate light from electricity. So now companies tout about their new type of bulb that is halogen or compact florescent gas (the squiggly bulbs) or many LEDs tied together. What we have ended up with is light bulbs that still uses a lot of power, shatters if you drop it, get very hot and are hazardous to throw away. How is this an improvement?
Another example is a simple phrase like “Asset Tracking”. So simple to say but it means so much. What assets, vehicle, product, people, planes, trains, dogs, cattle, and so much more? Track across the yard, across town, across the country, around the world, from where to where? Do you want to know exactly where at any time or just when the asset arrives at a certain spot? Is the tracking known or stealth? There are so many factors how could any one company provide the solution YOU need?
Finally a third example, staffing your company. What a pain!!! You hire in good times and then fire people in bad times feeling horrible about it. No one feels “safe” anymore about their job and looking for another job is even a worse pain!!!! Why do we do this to ourselves?
Instead at KayPat Enterprises we looked at things from a different aspect. Why not change paradigms and do something completely different? This is innovations: “a new invention or way of doing something”. We take technology and we do something different with it. Let’s look at our three examples and how to innovate them with new solutions.
How about that light bulb. We asked ourselves, “What is an efficient means to generate light from electricity and why do light bulbs fail”? Our answer was LED lights are highly efficient, environmentally friendly and use electricity that exist today. However, we also looked at technology and asked, why just use AC current? Is that efficient and GREEN? As homes start to use other means to have electricity to your homes, besides the power company (i.e. solar, wind, etc.), you generate DC current and then you must convert it to AC and lose as much as 1/3 of the generated power to heat. Here in Texas it cost a lot to get rid of heat with air conditioning, another energy consumption. Therefore how can we make a better light bulb?
Our patent pending solution (coming this spring) is an LED light bulb that runs on AC or DC power, the same bulb, using 40% to 70% less energy and generating 80% less heat. It is an electronic light, not chemical, so it is environmentally friendly, has a plastic housing, not glass, and can easily be disposed. But why dispose it? Since it is electronic, you can send it back to be refurbished thereby making it the last light bulb you will need to buy. A new way to generate light.
SO how can we solve asset tracking? We don’t solve it ourselves. Instead we take the best of other companies and tie those together to provide a “single look and feel” solution. The key is knowing the other company’s string points and weak points. Since every “solution” will be unique for each client, we don’t try to “sell” a solution but instead work with you to create the right solution using the best products from the various providers. For the backend portion that ties it all together, we use a powerful Business Rules Engine software that easily allows us, and you, to change processing without having to recode. Our innovative approach is to quickly build you a solution rather than sell you a product.
How much time do you, or someone you know, spends looking for personnel when you need them? It seems that you either have to pay a lot to get candidates or get flooded by applicants when you post a position online. With today’s technology why can’t you just text the people in your area that match your needs and have them text you back that they are interested/available? Our patent pending solution (coming this summer) provides the technology to do this for you. No more hunting, interviewing, hoping they will work out. Instead you will see rated individuals that exactly match your needs and immediately find out if they start working for you. The search will become so easy, you can start looking at bringing in temporary help in a whole new paradigm.
These examples show you how we at KayPat Enterprises look at today’s problems with a whole new approach, innovation. Now just “thinking outside the box” but thinking in a circle. We tie together different technologies (or create our own) and use new approaches to solve your (and our) problems. Once you try it, you will find out technology is not bleeding edge but instead can provide new life. KayPat Enterprises can help you find this new life. Call us today,
Proudly technical,
